Mein Schatz

“Mein Schatz” embodies narratives and ideas inspired from Heise’s family archive of photographs. These photographs range from the early 1900’s to the late 1970’s. Using her own photography, digital manipulation, and painting, Heise blended these photographs together into new images and re-contextualized them.

“I am interested in representing the fictional memories and stories I instinctively made while looking through these archives. Fragmented ideas of ancestry emerged, puzzled together through longing and curiosity.”

Mein Schatz translates from German to “My Treasure” – a term of endearment for loved ones.

A loved one lost.

A found treasure.

A dream image from another time and world.

A world we can freely interpret, but never live in.
