Elly Heise (she/her) is a Norwegian-Canadian interdisciplinary artist working in the mediums of installation, photography, textiles, and drawing. She holds an MFA from the University of Victoria (2020) and a BFA from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2015). She has received international recognition for past photographic projects, and two Canada Council grants (2021, 2025).
In addition to her artistic practice, Heise has curated an outdoor international photography exhibition (2024), worked on an adjudication panel for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (2024), and taught as a sessional photography instructor at the Medicine Hat College (2022-present). Thanks to generous funding from the CC early research and creation grant, she is currently based in Norway attending residencies.

“My current research examines potential relationships between nature, Norwegian folklore, and invisible illness. By combining photography, textiles, drawing, and installations, I seek to connect people’s unique mental states to the healing potential of nature and memory.”
